Our kitchen table is a happy place to be this week, flooded with winter sunlight and a growing pile of inspiring spring reading. Top of the stack today is the new book ‘A year in flowers‘ the long-awaited second book by Erin Benzakien of Floret Farm in Washington.

A Year in Flowers has 28 projects and a wealth of information about design, technique, understanding colour, sourcing essential accessories and caring for cut flowers.

Above is the ‘Sherbet Centrepiece’ using treasured honeysuckle, hellebores and ranunculus, a pretty blush affair with (I bet) the most amazing scent!

I love the A-Z ingredient list, it describes all the flowers used and more, their expected vase life and any special harvesting or care tips. Twenty pages of exciting flower happiness.

The sweet pea section is a moody delight and shares the dream set up of hoop upon hoop of frilly tangled beauties in an ombre wave of white, blue and mauve.

Above, a Meadow inspired arrangement overflows with clematis, echinacea and wispy whites with fresh summer greens.

The periwinkle and buttercream posy is a riot of colours that remind me of Easter – pansies, violas, pale-yellow honeysuckle, tiny forget-me-nots and Icelandic poppies.

Lastly another favourite page is a gathering of narcissus and daffodils – a curated collection of peach, salmon, pale cream and ivory varieties. The first days of spring at their finest!

This book is such a joy and inspiration, the step by step guides are great for flower novices and obsessors alike, my favourite pages to swoon over include – Statement Piece page 70, Coral Infusion page 164, Farm to Table Posy page 182, Rose and Plum Posy page 264 and the sun-filled Van Gogh jar of happiness on page 236.
