Fancy a short promenade around our rustic green kitchen with me on this fine November day? All my photos of late have been of flowers and the garden, so I thought a small interiors detour would be fun before my autumn garden post goes up later. Back in Spring, we repainted the cupboards and pantry door from dark grey to olive green. A quick and easy update to cheer and refresh the space. I had painted the large crockery cupboard that is in the lounge a couple of years ago (see pics) and really loved the colour, so thought to carry it on into the kitchen area. Ooh and the table in the lean-to got a splash of olive green on the legs last year too, so we are all matchy-matchy!
There are a couple of new additions since my last kitchen post many (many) moons ago. Some shelving units as we are rather scant on cupboards and needed storage for our many jars of ingredients, grains and homemade pickles. One made from an old cupboard that we had rescued from on its way to the tip and one bespoke design bought from our friend, the lovely Garry – Old Man & Magpie. The Grey wall behind the oven and open shelves was painted white for light, but I may one day give it an effect again as after I painted over all that tactile texture – I quite missed it!
I do love a bit of fast-drying, easy to clean, chalk paint for quick projects, and I like the aged effects that can be easily achieved by a simple clear or dark wax layer over the top. We have bought many tins of Annie Sloan paint over the years. They all hide together in the loft, waiting for days when I might paint on a whim. They seem to work quite well even after long periods of neglect, a good stir, and maybe a dash of water if they have gone a bit thick. Who knows what colour these cupboards will be next?!
Don’t be fooled by finding us this tidy, the place looks like it has been flipped upside down most days. This is us after a deep clean and spruce as we took most of these photos for the 10-year anniversary edition of 91 Magazine that came out this summer -(congratulations to Caroline and the team)!
