THE DESOLATE BUT BEAUTIFUL DUNGENESS LANDSCAPE

How are you holding up in this crazy weather? The sky has been chucking bucket loads of rain down here on the cliff top all morning, and now all the trees are tilting towards Dover! Last week while all was quite calm, we took a drive out to Dungeness to ride our bikes and take in some of the intriguing structures.

The scrubland and shingle were shining golden in the early evening sun, and these shanty like artists studios with jewel coloured boundary markers caught my eye. It is such an amazing little stretch of coast, the power station still looms out of the haze but barely gets any attention, as there are so many other things to see.

The Derek Jarman garden is slowly going over into it’s Autumn guise, and by the looks of it some of the wild sweet peas have escaped and found a home for their pink blooms further down the road.

The giant sea kale dotted all around were fading from to Persian green to pale celadon and modern houses clad in silvering timber mingle in with the old black and white weatherboarded bungalows. We took the rickety boardwalk to the sea’s edge and stood in the breeze watching sail boats swish by.
