Just a few days before I can photograph and share our finished Bathroom and Kitchen renovations with you. A small matter of a missing sewing machine foot is holding us up, but here’s a little sneak peek into the lighting details and some hopefully useful links too. If you haven’t fallen in love with bare bulbs yet, this might just sway you over. After living with them for a while in other rooms, we have chosen them for both our kitchen and bathroom lighting. Some we’ve recently purchased in the last year and some items that have been saved for more than five up in the attic! But now they are finally up and casting a warm amber glow over proceedings.
We removed the central ceiling light in favour of movable lighting that can plug in and be pegged up over whichever surface we are working on and of course anywhere else in the house too. I am also going to make some papier-maché shades to cover the bulbs for a softer look – DIY coming soon. The kitchen has a rustic feel with industrial accents and lots of recycled, found objects and items repurposed from around the house and garden – like the shelves in the top photo that we made from the ‘Welcome’ crate that was in the house when we moved in.
Now the cooker hood and shelving has finally been put up and painted, we can hang the lights! A very exciting day indeed, especially for Wallis above as she now has her own ideas of climbing up all over the shelves much to my distress.
We thought industrial lighting would look good mixed with the reclaimed wood, distressed wall and soft linen curtaining. So far we are over the moon with how the whole space feels and works, I cannot wait to take photos of the whole space in the next few days.
We loved the look of these ceramic wall lights for our bathroom – shown above in this photo from the Artist Residence Hotel. We also saw some similar when we were in Sweden and really liked them, so made it our quest to find some. And we did – source, wish-list and hopefully useful inspiration below.
We managed to find the source – Factorylux by Urban Cottage Industries. We fell for most of their range and almost everything is made here in the UK at Hebden Bridge. Top of our wish-list (above) – and the items we bought were the super sturdy UK made Bulkhead (no 2), for our outdoor space – not yet finished but spring is coming! The Angled Ceramic Wallight (No 4) for our bathroom above the mirror and we bought two of the Simple Plug-In Lights (No 6) which you can customise to your own design – warning – this is so much fun you might lose a few hours!
The rest of the list is future purchases (fingers crossed), I am totally in love with the Bletchley Park Glass Pendant Light (No 5) for our bedroom when we finally get to updating it. The Beryl Pendant (No 1) office light – Dean’s biking past sneaking in here, we love the offbeat bespoke details on this one – the traditional lighting chain has made way for a bike chain. Designed drawing inspiration from cycling legend Beryl Burton the English racing cyclist who once dominated women’s cycle racing in the UK, winning domestic championships and world titles – a little inspiration for #internationalwomensday2025. Finally the Bronze Maria Wall Sconce With Shade (No 3) – we hope to have a couple of these industrial cuties in the hallway and walk-in larder. Phew, that was a lot of info. I have been totally obsessed with lights since my ten years in lighting retail many moons ago! The sun is finally out here and it is time for some baking 😉
