Sofa’s -like that crystal shoe that cinderella left behind there is always one that is perfect for your home or in my case six. Six that I love and six that I am sadly left to cry over until we move the office off campus and get our living room back. Don’t get me wrong I love our bijou lounge but even three chairs are a squeeze to fit in and we have no spare bed/sofa to sleep on when guests come – Dean seems more than happy to make a nest out of sheep and deer skins, viking style – but I prefer a little more cushioning! On my dream room seeking travels, I have found six sofa styles that keep catching my eye, and with my favourite modern retro brand Habitat – I have sourced some sofas that will achieve the look.
The yellow one – cheery and bright, this really is a smile in furniture form. From ochre to neons, a bright happy colour that will lift any space or add a nod to the 70’s style in a darker gold. This one above looks right at home with all the paired back industrial accents and battered leather chairs.
The de-constructed one – platform style seating with loose cushions for easily making a place to sit, a bed or even a fort! This versatile way of creating seating makes adding cushions in prints, patterns and shapes, all kinds of fun. Personality shines through in your assemblage and then you can switch it all round at the drop of a hat, I am always swapping accessories from room to room here!
The berry coloured one – plum, violet, aubergine – crushed linen or velvet. Luxurious and sometimes regal – the berry coloured sofa is quite a statement. The stylist above has made even a colour I have had my doubts about in the past, look pretty and feminine. I love it mixed with the pale golds, duck egg and pinks. In the simple white setting it actually looks understated. The husband in shaking his head – nightmares of all the crystal chandeliers and sparkly things re-emerging from the attic are swirling around in his mind.
The salon style one – a little formal but good for the posture and very easy on the eye. This smart style fits in perfectly with an eclectic or minimalist home, makes easy friends with odd chairs and looks especially elegant with the gallery wall behind. Perfect for sitting, talking and entertaining.
The mossy one – I have spied green sofas all over the place and mostly they appear in a velvet. Soft and tactile in all shades of green – most of the owners seem to have really gone to town with the setting of their green sofa, blue walls, lots of plants leaning over and around, I think this is why they appeal to me so much, the garden had already moved inside here so why not camouflage the seating!
The Scandi one – the sofa on most people’s wish list is probably grey (yawny after all these colours, only kidding I LOVE grey) and no wonder, with the Scandinavian influence on interiors at an all-time high. A perfect grey with inconspicuous legs, easily dressed with black, white and pattern (or colours). A sofa like this would fit in to most peoples ideal life and can be updated easily with accessories for different seasons or occasions.
