Ready for some cosy images from a mini photo shoot we did an age ago now? These were for an issue of Simple things Magazine. But Providence Cottage is definitely a winter house so I thought I would share some of the photos with you after the last dark and dreary few days. Where is that sun?!
This little house is in Cranbrook, Kent. Owned by two of my favourite people ever. Once lived in by them and their tiny baby Edith. Now just about to be sold after a year or two as Airbnb hosts.
They have long since moved – Edith is 9 and now has two sisters and a baby brother who simply could not be stowed away in this rustic gem! This is where just us grown-ups spent last New Years Eve, cosy around the fire, playing records, merrily eating and drinking.
Simple furnishings and warm layers throughout the rooms with rugs, throws and sheepskins. Books to read and plenty of seating, which would you choose – the curvy fireside seat, the vintage sofa or the antique wooden chair?
The dining nook has got to be one of the snuggliest places ever. Intimate for two, cosy for four! Tucked away from the light, the tiny window lets in beams of sunshine from the garden and mirrors reflect them on into the room
We just love this place, the kitchen is hand finished with rustic concrete worktops and vintage utensils for use hung up all over the place.
Ancient oak beams surround you like a sturdy hug in every room and soft light is cast down from above the worktops over tea making proceedings. The living room calls you back to get cosy by the fire and candlelit meals seem even more magical eaten here, somehow.
Upstairs the bathroom is delightfully rustic and the main bedroom is all crumpled linen loveliness with wood trunks for storage. The residual warmth from the huge inglenook downstairs keeps the chill off and there is another small bedroom for a little one.
We will be sad to no longer visit this lovely place but know the next owners will get to discover and enjoy all the cosy magic inside.
